Wildflowers, Mushrooms
and Fall Colors
Our wildflower collection is
abundant from spring to fall. Many wild flowers are common, but some plants like the tiny
sundew and cotton grass are only found in our northern sphagnum bogs. In May violets and
trilliums bloom. Morel mushrooms are found in late May and early June. An interesting
flower in June is the lady slipper. Late in July you will find plenty of blueberries to
pick. Fall is breathtaking at NettieBay Lodge as leaves turn fiery red, brilliant yellow
and deep purple. There is more color than you have ever seen before. Special fall color
tour packages available in late September and October. |

Hiking
You can hike our 2000 acres year
round on trails and two tracks. During winter months cross country skiers visiting
NettieBay Lodge can enjoy our great ski trails. You will go through wooded acres, pass a
pond and through open fields where you might see whitetail deer.
Beautiful sunrises and sunsets
over Lake Nettie
will never be forgotten.
Birding
If youre interested in finding
a variety of birds, then you must visit NettieBay Lodge in mid May! Home of NettieBay
School of Birding, you will see flights of birds winging their way to summer nesting
areas. Marshes and sedge meadows will introduce wading birds. Also, Lake Hurons
beaches are home to many shore birds. Our last bird census identified over 100 species.
You can bird by boat, use elevated tree platforms or just walk. Guided trips are available
if requested in advance. Also a Kirtlands Warbler nesting area is only an hour away
in the Huron-Manistee National Forest near Mio.
